As of early 2024, Las Vegas was ranked as a city with one of the highest homelessness rates among veterans. Since the start of the company in 2023, the Sin City Real Estate and Management team prides themselves on their work with US Vets to secure housing for veterans who are already homeless or at risk of homelessness. Last year, our company attended the Las Vegas Veterans Stand Down & Hiring Fair held by U.S. Vets to support veterans. The event is a one-day, community-wide experience that connects unhoused veterans with essential services such as housing providers, healthcare, workforce organizations, and agencies. We are proud to announce that 2026 will be the second (2nd) year in a row that we will be attending as a housing provider.
Las Vegas has been providing services to aid veterans since World War I. The American Legion Las Vegas Post 8 was chartered to serve WWI veterans since September 1919, expanding to help all veterans who were enlisted. During various wars, the Las Vegas area was used for training and testing, bringing a nostalgic factor to many veterans who have decided to retire in the valley. Despite the support out there to help veterans, there are many who go unnoticed or are unaware of the resources available to them. Due to health issues, mental health issues (like PTSD from active duty), and the rising cost of living, veterans are roughly 50% more likely to end up homeless than the average U.S. civilian.
The last census conducted for veterans happened in 2025, with the schedule changing to biannually, to accommodate funding for more initiatives and resources rather than data collection. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there are roughly a little less than 1,000 homeless veterans in Nevada. U.S. Vets, who is hosting the Stand Down event, operates from Las Vegas with 330 beds of permanent and transitional housing. Annually, they help over 400 veteran families find housing quickly.
As a housing provider at the event, we will be working with veterans to help them get placed in any of our vacant units. The role of Sin City Real Estate and Management, as a leading property management company, is to ensure the preservation and profitability of our client’s investment. This guarantees that the owner can enjoy their return without the stress. Here at the company, we find value in bridging the gap between social services and real estate. Many homeowners who self-manage don’t have the experience or resources to work with social services like U.S. Vets and HUD-VASH. Property managers facilitate stable long-term tenancy for veterans through supportive permanent housing solutions. They provide streamlined processes, reducing barriers for veterans with special needs or specific accommodations, often working directly with caseworkers to maintain stability.
The Stand Down event provides a respite for at-risk veterans, providing them with resources in the healthcare, government, and private business sectors. In the military, the term “stand down” is used to put troops in a state of rest, meaning that they no longer must be alert on the front lines, often allowing them to retreat to shelter for medical attention and rest. As a property management company, we value the ability to provide a space for veterans to “stand down” and rest in their homes, without the fear of being displaced or discriminated against.
As we prepare for the Las Vegas Stand Down & Hiring Fair on March 4th, our mission at Sin City Real Estate and Management remains clear: provide stable permanent housing to veterans who are at risk of homelessness or already homeless. Our mission this year is the same as last year, to house as many veterans as we can and fill all our vacant units. Events like these provide veterans with opportunities that otherwise may not be offered to them. Recent data shows a steady climb in the needs and barriers that veterans face, with rising costs of living, personal challenges, and service-related challenges, all contributing to the steady rise in homelessness amongst veterans.
2026 is the second year we are showing up as a dedicated housing provider. While our basic goal is to fill vacancies, it does not end there. We are honoring a tradition that has been a part of our Battle-Born state since the start, supporting those who served. We encourage fellow property managers and local leaders to join us at the World Market Center, whether you are offering jobs, housing, or resources. Together we can ensure than no veteran in our valley goes unnoticed.
